We get asked a load of questions about this project and they tend to be about the same dozen or so questions. So, here is a list of the most common questions we get asked.
How did this start?
Well, we totally talk about this in our history, but Alixander sat down at the Urban Flea Market in Downtown Salt Lake City and started producing little quippies for people to enjoy.
What kinds of other events do you guys do?
We have an entire page dedicate to the events that we have done, and we wouldn’t mind talking about your event.
Do I come up with the words or do you?
See that really depends. Not the clearest answer, I know.
We are poets who act as your typist. So when you want us to come up with something – well, we can do that. And when you want to tell us exactly what to write, we can do that too.
How does it work when I don’t know what words I want typed?
Okay, so we have a process. A series of questions, really. And your to those questions give us poets enough input to create an ultra-custom, typewritten words.
How much does it cost me to have typewritten words made?
We craft your request for hand-made, typewritten-words on a donation basis.
How many typists are there?
We are a collective of typists. Some are more involved than others, but anyone who participates as a typist for The Poem Pros is immortalized in our history.
How long have you been doing this?
So this is kind of a variant of how did this start & how many typists.
This project started in May of 2017 and each typists has a different answer to how long they have been doing this. Some have been involved since day one, while others will tell you that today is their first time helping you craft your request.
Is this the only thing you do?
Most of our typists would love to say that using a typewriter was all that they do. And, frankly, that’s not the case. Each of our typists work some kind of full-time gig or entrepreneurial pursuit.
How much is an acceptable donation?
Gosh, that is a tricky question to answer…
A million dollars is completely acceptable. And a penny is too. The price of our work is entirely dependent on the value you think your request is worth.
What can we write?
Anything that is positive. Quotes, mantras, lyrics, poems, prose, affirmations, love-letters, thank you cards, secret codes, java script… We’re poets with typewriters. With your help, we can do anything.
Where can I get my typewriter fixed?
You have a typewriter? COOL FOR YOU!
Oh, it doesn’t work?
How do I refill the ink?
There isn’t “ink” like modern printers. Typewriters use a ribbon for ink that gets struck by the typeslug key you pressed, which depresses ink from the ribbon into the indentation the typeslug creates in the paper.
But you can get a new ribbon by searching your typewriter brand and model here.
Do you accept typewriters
Yes. Contact us.
You guys are a little bit like PostSecret, aren’t you?
Ummm… no, but our blog is definitely inspired by them.
What’s the farthest you’ve ever sent a letter?
As far as The Poem Pros are concerned, the farthest we’ve sent a letter is form Salt Lake City, Utah, USA to Frankfurt, Germany. The distance between those places is 5217 miles.
Have you ever written a book?
Not yet, but we are working on it. 🙂
Are you on social media?
Can I commission you to do a bigger project?
What is The Poem Pros process?
Well… try it and tell us where you want us to mail the words.
Send it to an address that I know of or just any address?
If we are going to ship it, you need to tell us where it is going. Simple as that.
