We get asked a load of questions about this project and they tend to be about the same questions. So, here is a list of the most common questions we get asked.
The big five questions we get are:
- How does this work?
- What can we write?
- Who comes up with the words?
- What will it look like?
- What address is this coming from?
- What address does I send it to?
- how much does it cost?
How does this work?
Best way to say it:
- Would you like a typewritten message?
Please share an idea of what you would like it to be about.
- Would you like us to mail it to you or someone you care about?
Please give us an address of where you want it mailed.
- Do you want your idea as-is, or do you want to give us creative license?
Please select if you want your message as dictated, or if we have license to make something up based on your idea
- Would you like us to make your request?
Please submit your request with all the required fields filled and click submit.
- Would you like to show your support of The Poem Pros?
Please donate after you have submitted your order.
What can The Poem Pros write?
Anything that is positive.
- thank you cards
- secret codes
- java script…
We’re poets with typewriters. With your help, we can do anything.
Who comes up with the words?
We are poets who act as your typist.
You share your idea, big or small, and tell us if it as-is or if we have creative license.
We will type your message and send it by mail.
What is going to look like?
This is approximately our standard format:
Will I see it before you send it?
Truthfully, if you have not given us creative license, it will be virtually identical to your input.
If you have given us creative license, we send it once it has been made to preserve the mystery and creativity. Rest assured, we take great pains to deliver the best message for you.
What if I hate it?
If you hate it -> Contact us!
What address do you send it from?
We use your mailing address for the return address. In the event that there are any mistakes in the shipping process, it will come back to you.
Send it to an address that I know of or just any address?
If we are going to make it, we have to ship it.
And to send it, you need to tell us where it is going to be mailed to.
How much does it cost to have typewritten words made?
We write your message by hand, using authentic typewriters.
And from the on-going love of our Patreon supporters too.
Many people feel comfortable with a $5-$10 donation. But some have donated much more.
We are grateful for any donation we receive.
What does my donation cover?
Donations cover the following:
- Artisan Paper
- Security envelopes
- Typewriter ribbons
- Typewriter repairs
- Event entry fees
- Marketing supplies like banners, posters, and signs
- Website hosting fees
- A slew of other odds and ends we use to make this project work.
How did this start?
Well, we totally talk about this in our history, but Alixander sat down at the Urban Flea Market in Downtown Salt Lake City and started producing little quippies for people to enjoy.
What kinds of other events do you guys do?
We have an entire page dedicate to the events that we have done, and we wouldn’t mind talking about your event.
How many typists are there?
We are a collective of typists. Some are more involved than others, but anyone who participates as a typist for The Poem Pros is immortalized in our history.
How long have you been doing this?
This project started in May of 2017 and each typists has a different answer to how long they have been doing this. Some have been involved since day one, while others will tell you that today is their first time helping you craft your request.
Is this the only thing you do?
Most of our typists would love to say that using a typewriter was all that they do. And, frankly, that’s not the case. Each of our typists work some kind of full-time gig or entrepreneurial pursuit, and that is why we greatly appreciate your donations and our on-going supporters.
Where can I get my typewriter fixed?
You have a typewriter? COOL FOR YOU!
Oh, it doesn’t work?
How do I refill the ink of my typewriter?
There isn’t “ink” like modern printers. Typewriters use a ribbon for ink that gets struck by the typeslug key you pressed, which depresses ink from the ribbon into the indentation the typeslug creates in the paper.
But you can get a new ribbon by searching your typewriter brand and model here.
Do you accept typewriters?
Yes. Contact us.
What’s the farthest you’ve ever sent a letter?
As far as The Poem Pros are concerned, the farthest we’ve sent a letter is form Salt Lake City, Utah, USA to Frankfurt, Germany. The distance between those places is 5217 miles.
Have you ever written a book?
Not yet, but we are working on it. 🙂
